| Kim Simon - fibre red |
At the age of four, Kim’s
mother taught her to knit; rectangles and the accompanying
pompoms were sewn into the most stylish of slippers. As
an adult, the transition into the world of textiles has
been unashamedly easy.
Whilst working as an Occupational Therapist, Kim enrolled
in a part time textile course at RMIT in Melbourne. Wanting
to explore a lifelong passion with yarns, Kim’s
focus began with weave. She later sidetracked to a machine
knitting class where she discovered the ease of making
wearable garments.
The genesis of fibre red was in 2003. The simple structures
and evolving forms of fibre red are beautiful, edgy pieces
that are classic, contemporary and constitute a label
of distinctive style. fibre red garments are made on domestic,
non electric knitting machines using 100% Australian Merino
Wool and organic cotton.
Kim is focused on maintaining a business with integrity.
fibre red is developed around an ethos of environmental
and ethical issues in relation to wool production and
the fashion industry.
With a history of costume and furniture collaborations,
and ever expanding visions for the future, the fibre red
journey continues in it’s colourful and unorthodox
manner. |
